Ohio State QB Will Howard’s left hand bore the evidence of a hard hit during the first half of the Cotton Bowl on Friday night.

The back of Howard’s had developed a large bump after he got hit early in the game. According to ESPN, Howard hadn’t gotten any treatment on the sidelines for his hand, but it was clear that something happened to it even if the injury looked worse than it actually was.

It also likely helped a lot that it was Howard’s non-throwing hand. Howard is a righty.

The Buckeyes took a 7-0 lead early in the game as the Ohio State defense had kept Texas in check. And Howard’s hand was not the only high-profile injury of the first half. Texas’ top receiver Matthew Golden suffered an ankle injury after he got rolled up on in the first half and tried to return before leaving the game.

Ohio State edge rusher JT Tuimoloau also got rolled up on. His left ankle got turned outwards by another player and he had to be tended to on the field by trainers before trying to walk the injury off on the sidelines.
